Two sisters run this shop. Our father painted the board.
Marta and Joan Voss took over this garage from their father. It is the same set of bays on River Street, and the price board he painted still hangs in bay two.
$149
Battery test, coolant strength, wipers, tire tread and pressure, and a look at the brake lines.
The board in bay two
Our father painted the first price board himself and hung it in bay two, where it still is. The sticker beside it is the one we change when a price does.
The 4 in the winter prep price, up at the top of this page, is painted by hand. The tile it replaced cracked, so Joan copied his 4 onto a new one.
Prices on this board were set
When one changes we repaint that tile and change this date, the way our father did on the board that still hangs in bay two.
Who answers the phone
Two sisters, one counter and one set of bays. Nobody here works on commission.
Marta Voss
Writes the estimates and answers the phone
If you call, you get Marta, or her voicemail and a call back by noon on the next day we are open. She will tell you what we would check first and what it will cost before anything comes apart.
On her desk is a coffee can of old spark plugs, one from every engine that surprised her.
Joan Voss
Runs the bays
Joan does the lift inspections and the road tests. She is also the one who puts your old parts in a box on the passenger seat, so you can see what was worn.
She keeps a notebook of the noises people have described to her, a wet sneaker and a bag of marbles among them, and what each one turned out to be.
House rules
Five things that happen on every job, whatever the job is.
The price comes first.
Nothing comes off your car until Marta has written the price down and you have said yes.
Old parts ride home with you.
They go in a box on your passenger seat, so you can see what was worn and what was fine.
Extra work gets its own estimate.
If we find something else we stop and call you. It is written down separately, and you can say no to it without losing the work you asked for.
A flashing light means pull over.
We will tell you that on the phone even when it means you do not book with us.
The gate stays open until we close.
We close at 5:30 pm on weekdays and 1:00 pm on Saturdays. The gate on Elm Court stays open until then, so you can pull in without calling from the street.
What we do not work on
Motorcycles, RVs and diesel trucks over one ton are not on our bench. If you call about one, we will say so in the first minute and tell you who we would call.
Every other job is on the services page with its price.
See every job and its priceCome by, or call first
The counter opens at 7:30 am on weekdays. Marta can usually tell you on the phone whether it is a flat-price job.
